Tip 25- Get Some Sleep! (Part 2)

Sleep Zapper: When you eat cold foods (fruit/green salad or a smoothie) for dinner, your body has to work hard to bring the temperature of the food up to body temperature. The goal at night is to help your body relax; you don’t want it to get revved up trying to digest cold foods.

Sleep Enhancers: Eat foods that contain B vitamins (ex: lentils, beans, bananas, potatoes and fish) at night. B vitamins help to calm your nervous system, making it easier to fall asleep.

Today’s tip: Try this recipe for black bean soup: Open a can of black beans, put them in a strainer and rinse for 30 seconds (gets rid of about 40% of the sodium); toss in a blender and add a cup of salsa and blend. Transfer to a small sauce pan and heat through. Top with chopped cilantro and a dollop of low fat sour cream- DINNER IN 5 MINUTES!
