Motivational Weight Loss Tips

Now that the holiday season is behind us, it’s time to step on the scale and face reality. You just can feel that extra serving of stuffing with turkey gravy on your hips, so it’s not going to be good news. But it’s okay. We can do this!

Sure, it would have been better to choose a carrot stick over a piece of carrot cake, but that doesn’t mean that all is lost. Personally, I’ve found that the best way to start a new diet and exercise plan is to motivate yourself, so here are a few of my favorite motivational quotes to get you going.

“Strive for progress, not perfection.” –Unknown

Don’t compare yourself to others. Just focus on the improvements you’ve made to your own life. Eventually, you’ll feel so great that perfection won’t matter quite as much.

“So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health.”  A.J.Materi

This quote is a good source of ammunition against the “I’m too busy” excuse. When we say that, it’s often because we’re focusing too much on work or other people and not enough on ourselves.

“An hour of basketball feels like 15 minutes.  An hour on a treadmill feels like a weekend in traffic school.”  David Walters

Ain’t it the truth? When you’re doing something you love, exercise isn’t a chore. The key to making exercise a part of your life is to avoid those “traffic school” workouts. Try dance, yoga, Pilates or even basketball.

“The difference between a goal and a dream is a deadline.” -Steve Smith

Think about this one for a moment. Now, think about your fitness goals. Can you put realistic deadlines on them? Imagine how much farther you would get if you were held accountable for those deadlines.

“It’s not food if it arrived through the window of your car.” Michael Pollan

Junk food isn’t really food at all. It’s junk. Avoid it at all costs! Instead, try to take healthy snacks with you wherever you go. This way, you won’t be tempted when you pass the drive-thru.

    Deborah –
I am a diabetic who has had a kidney transplant. Do you have any suggestions for me on lowering my carb intake since that is what I have to base my insulin intake on. I try not to buy any foods that have a lot of carbs. I am starting to eat more fish (tilapia) and does albacore white tuna count? After my transplant one thing happened that can be good and bad. I no longer get hungry and my stomach never growls. I can eat a high fiber bran cereal with a banana in the morning and not eat again unil 8pm, usually because my blook sugar gets low. I know this screws up my metabolism but it has been screwed up for years. Any ideas for me to lose weight. I am also taking Prednisone as one of my imunosuppresants which automatically adds 20lbs. I will never lose. Thanks for any help!! Lori Wittman
